Letter Formatting
You will use letters for a variety of things. Although texting is becoming the most popular way to communicate, there are still times in our lives when letter writing is essential. When applying for college or a job for instance. It looks professional, and well prepared when an applicant has the correct format within in the letter, and gives a better expectancy to getting into that college, and accepted as an employee.

When formatting a letter, you must  have a two inch top margin, and single spaced paragraphs, and double space in between. Remember that all parts are aligned to the left hand margin. The order of the letter parts are: return address, date, letter mailing address, salutation, paragraphs, closing line, and the writers name. The spacing rules are a quadruple space after the date, another quadruple space after the closing line, and a double space between all other parts.

Report Formatting

The MLA guidelines include that you must have a running header with your last name and the page number. You must also have one inch margins and the MLA headings. MLA headings include the student's name, the teacher's name, the name of the class and assignment, and the date. A title is also needed in report formatting. A report must have a works cited page. On this page, you will have a hanging indent. A hanging indent aligns the first line of a reference to the left margin and word wraps the remaining lines of a reference 1/2 inch to the right. To create this, go to format, paragraph. This opens the "paragraph window." In the indentation section under the heading "special" choose the option "hanging."  In the body of the report everything needs to be double spaced. Always indent your paragraphs 1/2 inch and make sure you underline text and title cases in the section headings.
